Samsung Galaxy Z Fold8 wide may use thicker ultra-thin glass than Fold8 Ultra | Infinium-tech
According to a report from last week, Samsung will be using ultra-thin glass (UTG) of different thicknesses on the upcoming Galaxy Z Fold8 (Wide) and Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra. Both foldables are expected to launch alongside the Galaxy Z Flip8 in July.
Ultra-thin glass forms the top protective layer of the foldable phone’s flexible AMOLED display. This helps reduce creases while keeping the screen from falling. According to the report, the Galaxy Z Fold8 (Wide) will have a 60μm-thick UTG.

The taller Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra, on the other hand, is said to use a thinner 45μm UTG, matching the thickness of the existing Galaxy Z Fold7.

The thicker UTG on the Galaxy Z Fold8 (wide) will reduce the appearance of display creases compared to the Ultra model. However, thick UTG is generally less flexible and may be more sensitive to stress from repeated bending than a thin glass layer.
If the thicker UTG performs as expected on the Galaxy Z Fold8 (Wide), Samsung is reportedly considering using it on the Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra successor in 2027.
