Weekly poll results: the iPhone 17e looks too cheap to cost $600 | Infinium-tech
In last week’s survey about the Apple iPhone 17e, about 30% of voters say they are not looking to buy the iPhone. Another 30% say they are looking for a new iPhone but are aiming for a more premium model. The 17e has its fans, but it’s a niche device – let’s analyze it.
Only 10% of voters are willing to buy the 17E outright and about half of them will join them if they like what they see in the reviews. Speaking of, we have a review unit in our office and we’ve already posted it unboxing video.
There’s a lot to dislike on the iPhone 17e — even though it’s the most basic model, it still costs $600. This gives you 256GB of storage, but having a large notch on the display (60Hz display no less) makes the phone look cheaper than it actually is.

Having a single camera on the back and not even having Apple’s most capable wide camera is another negative. Some commentators say this is a phone for grandma or a small child – other commentators say it’s too expensive to give a 12 year old. They may get better service from cheaper Android phones (RCS has mostly fixed the green bubble scare, right?).
The biggest issue facing the iPhone 17e right now is that for $200 more you can get the iPhone 17, which is better in every respect — now $200 is a lot of cash, but if you’re already looking to pay $600, paying $800 for a better phone doesn’t seem out of reach.
You can also pick up an older iPhone 16, but not everyone is happy with that option — especially since Apple doesn’t even sell 256GB iPhone 16 units anymore and the 128GB base storage is very limited.
