Oppo unveils Apex Guard: a promise of hardware and software quality and longevity | Infinium-tech

Oppo unveiled a comprehensive plan to extend the lifespan of its phones to a new industry standard at its global headquarters and R&D hub at the Binhai Bay Campus.

The broad name of this scheme is Apex Guard. It includes hardware innovations that ensure that the phones will survive years of use. It also includes software solutions to keep the phone running fast. And this includes improved after-sales support in the form of added security.

On the hardware front, Oppo has developed materials like ultra-high-strength steel and AM04 aerospace-grade aluminum alloy. It also introduced structural solutions such as armor shields. All this improves the resilience of Oppo phones against the realities of daily use such as drops, scratches, extreme temperatures, use of buttons and USB ports.

OPPO’s silicon-carbon battery technology uses custom spherical silicon-carbon material, which adds 400 cycles to the battery’s usable life, making its capacity last longer.

The company is working with not one but several testing organizations: TUV Rhineland, TUV SUD and SGS. Together, they have conducted more than 180 device tests from the pre-R&D stage to the end of the product lifecycle to ensure that OPPO’s quality guarantee is not just talk.

Software is as old as hardware. The new ColorOS 16 introduces the first Unified Animation Architecture for Android to ensure app launches and transitions feel seamless even after years of use.

OPPO conducts aging tests, simulating 48, 60 and even 72-month usage periods (that’s up to 6 years!) to ensure that all of its developments have the intended effect.

Apex Guard was introduced at Oppo’s Binhai Bay campus – the campus is home to various advanced labs including a Materials Lab, an Intelligent Terminal Testing Lab, a Power Consumption Intelligent Lab, and a Communication Lab.
