iOS 27 source code reveals some iPhone Ultra features, September launch confirmed | Infinium-tech
Two software engineers, M1astra and Sam Henry Gould, found traces of the iPhone Ultra in the released iOS 27 beta source code. Of course, there’s no “iPhone Ultra” name in the strings, but the reference to a foldable smartphone is strong.

The iOS 27 beta framework code includes strings like “foldState,” “angleDegrees,” “mechanicalAngleDegrees,” and “isangleValid.” Apparently, the term “FoldState” refers to iOS 27’s ability to detect the folded and unfolded state of the iPhone Ultra. The other three wires suggest that the system can detect how much you have opened the device.
Having said that, we wouldn’t be surprised if the iPhone Ultra supported something like Android’s Flex Mode. You can partially turn off the device and use it as a “laptop” to watch videos hands-free or type on the large keyboard while viewing content on another part of the screen.
according to Bloomberg’s M1Astra, there are some publicly available features already on iOS 27 that will work much better on Ultra. For example, iOS 27 now allows full-screen widgets. They occupy the entire screen, but on foldables, they will only occupy half the display.
The updated iPhone Mirroring feature that allows you to cast your iPhone’s screen to a Mac can now be viewed in an iPad-sized window.
If there are so many lines of code in iOS 27 referencing the iPhone Ultra, it’s safe to assume that the rumors so far are correct – Apple’s long-awaited foldable phone will be announced this autumn. Possibly with the iPhone 18 series.
