RedMagic Astra 2 gaming tablet goes global | Infinium-tech

The RedMagic Astra 2 was launched in China in late June under the moniker “Gaming Tablet 5 Pro,” and now, users outside China can get their hands on it as well. There are no obvious changes to the design or hardware, so global markets get what the Chinese market does.

The tablet is built around a 9.06-inch LTPO OLED screen with a 185Hz refresh rate and extra-fast touch response time, with an average touch sampling rate of 300Hz.

The Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chipset sits behind the wheel, and you can get the tablet with either 12GB/256GB or 16GB/512GB of memory. The main chipset is aided by a dedicated RedCore R4 gaming chip, which deals with things like framerate stability and gaming graphics upscaling.

The tablet has dual stereo speakers, which are quite large, and dual X-axis linear vibration motors for what Redmagic calls 4D haptic feedback.

When it comes to the cameras, the setup is pretty basic, as can be expected – 13MP on the rear, 9MP on the front.

An 8,300 mAh battery keeps the lights on, supporting 75W wired fast charging. Interestingly, the device has two USB-C ports, a high-speed 3.2 Gen 2 connector, and a basic USB 2.0 port that can be used for charging while playing. It’s placed on the long side of the tablet, so it’s more convenient to plug it in in landscape orientation during gameplay.

Astra 2 runs on RedMagic OS 11.5 based on Android 16.

Today is the official global launch of the tablet, but sales will begin in late August. Until then, RedMagic is offering early bird vouchers that will allow customers one day of priority access before the sale begins. Voucher holders will also get an 80W charger.

Eclipse Black • StarFrost Silver

The RedMagic Astra 2 is expected to be available in Eclipse Black and StarFrost Silver colors in both 12GB/256GB and 16GB/512GB flavours. The entry-level configuration is priced at $749/€699/£599, while the better version costs $849/€799/£679.
