Samsung unveils new 200MP ISOCELL HP5 sensor for phones | Infinium-tech
Samsung has unveiled another 200MP smartphone image sensor called ISOCELL HP5, which it claims is the world’s first sensor with 0.5μm sized pixels.
Despite the smaller pixel size, the HP5 is said to deliver bright photos even in low-light conditions and better image quality overall. The sensor size is 1/1.56-inch.
Samsung says it used technologies like Front Deep Trench Isolation (FDTI) and Dual Vertical Transfer Gate (D-VTG) to allow each pixel to capture more light and detail. Despite the claimed smaller pixels, the sensor takes advantage of the improved DTI Center Cut (DCC) technology to produce brighter and clearer images.
Samsung claims the sensor delivers a 150% increase in conversion gain and a 3 to 40% reduction in random noise (RN) depending on shooting conditions. The ISOCELL HP5 offers 2x in-sensor zoom and up to 6x lossless zoom when used with the 3x telephoto lens.
It supports Smart ISO Pro and Staggered HDR for better HDR performance. The sensor can shoot 4K video at 120 fps, 8K at 30 fps, and 1080p video at 240 fps. It also supports 8-bit, 10-bit, 12-bit, and 14-bit RAW formats.
The new 200MP sensor is already in the mass production stage and is expected to be used in several upcoming phones, such as the Vivo Y500 Pro.
