Report: Samsung is looking to offset rising RAM prices in an unusual way | Infinium-tech
The rising cost of memory chips in the last year or so has forced manufacturers of electronic goods to come up with various strategies to ease the burden, especially smartphone makers who have a portfolio of low-to-mid-range devices. Increases in the price of more affordable devices could potentially pose a problem. This does not necessarily apply to high-end smartphones, where manufacturers are more willing to shift the cost to consumers.

A report from a Korean publication dealsite There are suggestions that Samsung has swapped out its homemade OLED panels for Chinese CSOT-made OLEDs in some of its mid-range models, including the Galaxy A57. Samsung has also reportedly switched from South Korean hinge supplier KH Waitek for the Galaxy Z series to Chinese Huanli for the Galaxy Z Flip7. Some of the ultrawide camera modules on the Galaxy S series are also now Chinese.
In Samsung’s eyes, reliance on Chinese suppliers is necessary to reduce overall costs and absorb the impact of absurd RAM prices. This way, the Korean tech giant does not have to raise prices for the end consumer.
Some may consider this unacceptable as Korean components are seen as more “high-quality”. But the reality is that Chinese manufacturers have caught up to the technology and are offering similar parts at lower prices.
People familiar with the matter believe Samsung will become increasingly dependent on Chinese components in the coming months and years, which in turn will impact local suppliers.
