Meta’s Threads celebrates 500 million users with a bunch of new features | Infinium-tech
There was a time when many Twitter alternatives came up, and even meta couldn’t stop itself from playing its part in this game with threads. Threads may have started as a way to catch people leaving Twitter after Elon Musk bought it, but it seems it’s now become bigger.
The service has reached 500 million monthly active users, with about 100 million added since last August. Undoubtedly, its relationship with Instagram has made it easier than other Twitter seekers. But Meta says its recently launched community feature is driving a lot of growth.

To celebrate this milestone, the community is going out of beta. Threads is also adding different icons for each community, a community hub in the main menu on the left side of your feed, community progress letting you see when a topic is close to becoming a community and what you can do to help it move forward fully, and more people will be granted Community Champion status. Additionally, native language community tags are now available for Japan, Korea, and Taiwan. In the coming weeks, Live Chat will be expanded to more communities, along with the ability to quote moments in your feed.

A big new feature is Your Algo, which complements the already available Dear Algo, which lets you tell the Threads algorithm what you want to see more of and less of. Your algo does the same for certain topics and lets you choose how long the request will run for. You can choose between one, three and seven days. Only you will see your requests, and you can manage both Dear Algo and Your Algo in one unified center. Your Algo is rolling out today in the US, Canada, UK, Australia, and New Zealand.
