iPhone 16 Pro sales are below expectations, analyst claims | Infinium-tech
According to Ming-Chi Kuo, a well-known source of Apple rumors, the iPhone 16 is not a ‘supercycle’. The analyst has shared his data collected from supply chain surveys and pre-order results from Apple’s official website.
And these numbers paint a dismal picture for Apple. Pre-orders for the iPhone 16 series in the first weekend are estimated to be around 37 million units, down 12.7% year-over-year compared to the first weekend sales of the iPhone 15 family. And this is despite the fact that first weekend sales of the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus were up year-over-year.
Demand for the iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max is lower than expected, despite Apple being very optimistic about the outlook and increasing shipments of the Pro Max (compared to the 15 Pro Max) before pre-orders began.
Kuo speculates that the reason for the disappointing performance of the Pro models is that the Apple Intelligence features are not launching with them this Friday, September 20, but they will be distributed in batches, starting in October and lasting until next year. There is also talk of tough competition in the Chinese market, which is affecting the demand for iPhones there.
Despite all that, Kuo doesn’t expect any production cuts, at least not yet, saying sales of the Pro models will improve once Apple intelligence kicks in. The holiday shopping season could help, too.
