Honor takes a dig at Samsung Galaxy Fold6 with a hand-engraved Magic V3 | Infinium-tech
Honor has introduced the Magic V3 with an extremely thin body – less than 4.4mm when unfolded and 9.2mm when folded. The company will launch the foldable internationally on September 5, so it is going all out with promotional activities, including mocking its competitors.
Honor issued the “world’s shortest apology” to Samsung owners who bought Galaxy Z Fold devices. The 166-word apology is engraved on the Magic V3’s 2.84mm hinge. The Chinese company wanted to “compensate for the inconvenience caused to those who have already bought Samsung’s larger alternative.”
The full message is as follows:
Dear Samsung Galaxy Z Fold owners, we’re sorry. We know you were excited to buy a phone that folds in half and fits easily in your pocket. You were promised the future, a technological marvel, a world of unlimited multitasking and performance.
And now, you might be looking at the new HONOR Magic V3 and feeling a little… cheated. Size matters, and we understand your pain. Like coming in last in a race after being shortlisted for the gold medal, learning that a thinner, lighter and more durable foldable exists is enough to make anyone question their choice.
We understand. You were one of the early adopters, a pioneer boldly moving into the uncharted territory of foldable screens with questionable durability. You deserve better than this. In fact, you deserve a gold medal.
In all seriousness, at HONOR we are committed to pushing the boundaries of technology and bringing you the best possible foldable experience. All we’re saying is… it’s okay to be disappointed. We’d feel the same way.
This apology has been engraved by 78-year-old British artist Graham Short, who is known for his small artworks, one of which is this message. It took the artist 90 hours to engrave this message by hand, which can only be read when viewed through a microscope.
The press release never mentioned that this is a piece of artwork and there is no message that will be engraved on all Magic V3 foldables. We also don’t know if we’ll get to see it, but we hope it will be showcased at IFA 2024 in Berlin.
Attempting to poke fun at Samsung, a company that launched its first foldable before Honor even existed as an independent company, is one way to draw attention to the Magic V3. Another way is the phone’s durability, which we also tested.
Honor will launch the Magic V3 on Thursday in three colors: green, black and red. Pricing will be revealed during an event we’ll be attending. Once everything is official, we’ll be ready to report all the rest of the details.
