Canalys: Global smartphone market grows 5%, Samsung barely keeps the top spot | Infinium-tech
Canalys posted its preliminary report on the global smartphone market in the third quarter of 2024, and it shows that shipments have increased sequentially and annually. According to analysts, the replacement cycle running from July to September was the main driver as competition became stiffer than ever.
Samsung remained on top, but barely retained its first position for Q3, as Apple had the same market share when the percentages were rounded to a whole number.
Xiaomi, Oppo and Vivo rounded out the top 5, but all eyes were on Apple as the US company achieved its highest-ever sales in the third quarter. There was strong demand for the iPhone 15 and newer devices, which are expected to arrive sometime this month, according to Apple Intelligence. Nevertheless, the major reason for the increase in Apple shipments was the market shift towards premium devices.
Hopefully the iPhone 16 performance will help Apple become the leading smartphone company again in Q4 and carry the momentum into H1 2025 after expanding its AI features to more markets like Europe and China, which will have to wait a bit .
The market is looking healthy heading into the shopping holiday season with Diwali in India on October 31, Singles Day in China on November 11 (11.11), Black Friday at the end of November and, of course, Christmas at the end of the year. ,
Q3 2024 market share | Q3 2023 market share | |
SAMSUNG | 18% | 21% |
Apple | 18% | 17% |
Xiaomi | 14% | 13% |
opposition | 9% | 10% |

Canalys reported that the smartphone market is improving, but some vendors still face global challenges in demand generation and regulation barriers, especially in the EU.
