Google is now letting you log in to your account with a selfie video. You’ll, of course, first need to set it up by recording an initial selfie video, in which you simply look at your device’s camera and complete “a few small, directed head movements to capture multiple angles,” the company says.
After that, you can log in to your Google account with the selfie video, for example if you forgot your password. Google will compare the new selfie video to the video you recorded when you set up the feature and let you in.
You can delete a saved selfie video from your account at any time, and Google says it’s only used to help you sign in, “unless you choose to share it for additional purposes”. Selfie video is “encrypted at rest,” meaning it’s stored securely even when it’s not being used.
Google has assured us that it is using “multiple layers of protection” for this feature to prevent impersonation attempts with fake photos and videos. To see if your account is eligible to use this feature and set it up, go here.
