With iOS 18, Apple’s Activation lock will guard more than the phone OS | Infinium-tech
As of now, iOS 18 is only available as an RC (Release Candidate) build for developers and public beta testers and a new feature is confirmed to arrive with the new OS next week – Activation Lock. This feature prevents someone from using stolen iPhone parts on another iPhone.
The feature was announced in April, and Apple says it was requested by law enforcement agencies to combat the problem of black marketing of stolen iPhone parts.
It locks the iPhone along with its parts to the original owner of the phone. And if the system detects second-hand parts like battery, camera, display, etc., it will ask for Apple ID and password. The spare part will remain locked until the original owner gives permission by typing his ID and password. After some time, the IDs of all iPhone parts will be assigned to the Apple account.
This feature has been tested and confirmed by some iOS 18 RC users who tried to replace iPhone parts.
Talking about iOS 18, it is expected to hit the market on September 16.
