WhatsApp is working on channel updates translation, introduces new calling features | Infinium-tech
WhatsApp has been working on a chat message translation feature since July, and now we have learned that the Meta-owned instant messaging platform is also working on a feature that will translate channel updates into different languages.
This revelation came from here WABetaInfoWho discovered this feature in version 2.24.26.9 of WhatsApp beta for Android. It is not currently available for beta users as it is still under development, but screenshots have been shared WABetaInfo Reveal that there will be new updates to the channel and a toggle to translate messages in chat.
This translation will occur on the device without requiring an active Internet connection for security and privacy reasons; Therefore, users will need to download a language pack to use the translation feature, which means the translation will not be accurate. This is a necessary compromise for privacy.
WhatsApp will initially support English, Hindi, Russian, Arabic, Spanish, and Portuguese languages, but more languages may be supported later.
Although there’s no word from WhatsApp on when this translation feature will be rolled out for everyone, the company has announced new calling features for desktop and mobile users ahead of the holiday season.
For starters, WhatsApp users can now select specific participants from a group chat for a call without disturbing all group members. They can also choose from ten effects for video calls.
On desktop, WhatsApp makes it easy to initiate a call, create a call link, or dial a number directly when the user clicks the Call tab. WhatsApp also says you can now get higher resolution videos for 1:1 and group calls.
