The Vivo V40 is already on sale in Europe, and we finally have a unit for review. The phone has a lot in common with its six-month-old predecessor, but it has a bigger 5,500mAh battery and a camera equipped with technology from Zeiss.

The Vivo V40 we have is the Nebula Purple variant, which feels good in the hand. However, we were disappointed to see that there is no charger in the retail box. So if you want to take advantage of the phone’s 80W wired charging, you will have to get the required charger yourself.

The V40’s design is polarizing with its unusual camera island. The same applies to the unusual finish on the back that feels somewhere between sand and satin.

On the front is a beautiful 6.78″ AMOLED screen with curved edges. In a world of flat frames and panels, curved screen fans don’t have that many options these days, so they’ll love this one.

The 120Hz display looks bright, but the 4,500 nits mentioned in the official specs are unlikely to be possible in real life – we’ll definitely check on that. The Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 chipset is doing a great job and the phone feels very responsive in these first few minutes.

The Vivo V40 has two 50 MP cameras on the back – one is the main camera with a 1/1.56″ sensor and the other is an ultrawide unit with a 1/2.76 imager. We’ll know how they perform only after the review is over.

Aura Light is the series’ trademark feature at this point, although we’ll have to see if the size of the new camera island affects its performance.

Vivo V40 review

The Vivo V40 starts at €500 and its hardware seems decent enough for the price. However, we will have to wait and see if its actual performance matches it.
