vivo still leads the Indian smartphone market in the first half of 2025 | Infinium-tech
According to the new data released by analysts in Canalis, Vivo led the Indian smartphone market with 8.1 million shipments and 21%.
Its shipments have increased by 31% in Q2 2024. This is followed by Samsung with 6.2 million shipments and 16% market share, which represents 2% year-on-year growth. The third has 5 million shipments, 13% market share and 24% increase with Oppo.
Interestingly, the brands have seen negative annual growth in the fourth and fifth positions.
Xiaomi managed 5 million shipments in Q2 this year with a 13% market share, and it is below 25% YOY, while Realme in the fifth place sent 3.6 million units for 9% market share, which was 17% below the year-old quarter.
Overall, the market increased by 7% for a total of 39 million units, which is above 36.4 million in Q2 2024. The Indian smartphone market has not seen more shipments compared to the Q2 since last year’s Q3, which last time we saw an increase in any year-by-year.
Principal Analyst Sanium Chaurasia, Principal Analyst of Canalis, says Vivo’s V50 series “Tier 1 and Tier 2 cities received tractions through large-forming retail and marriage-led campaigns, while Y-Siries maintained speed through deep distribution and promoter push in small towns and semi-urgent markets.” Meanwhile, “T-series was also continuously scaled online with a broad portfolio”.
Oppo’s strong quarter “was increasing the strong offline motion from the A5 series and online traction through the K13”. If you are wondering where Apple is – this was the sixth, accounting for more than 55% shipment with the iPhone 16 family. Interestingly, the iPhone 16E has lost the speed after the speed, “as consumers questioned the value of their single-camera design and largely untrue apple intelligence features”. Canalis estimates a small decline in shipment for the whole year, “as the challenges of structural demand persist”.
