UFS 5.0 announced with double the performance over the previous generation | Infinium-tech
JEDEC, or Joint Electron Device Engineering Council, has announced the next generation flash storage that will soon make its way into our equipment. The UFS 5.0 storage standard has now been finalized and manufacturers will be able to start production soon.
Standard AI focuses on performance and improvement in energy efficiency for system, mobile devices and edge computing. Equally important, UFS 5.0 will be compatible with the backward storage hardware, initially designed for UFS 4.X.
The UFS 5.0 almost doubles sequential performance, which offers 10.8 GB/s bandwidth. For reference, UFS 4.0 and 4.1 provide up to 5.8 GB/s bandwidth.
In addition to improving performance, the new link equipment ensures better signal stability, while a dedicated power rail distinguishes the noise between physical and memory layers, and also improves reliability. The UFS 5.0 also introduces inline hasing that protects user data.
JEDEC has not given a clear release timeline, so we have to wait until the manufacturers start creating new standards.
