This is the world’s first device with a rollable screen that’s actually going to be sold | Infinium-tech
Folding screens have been a thing for quite some time now, and rollable displays definitely represent the next big thing. These have been demonstrated by various display panel manufacturers and smartphone brands over the years, but there has not yet been a commercial product incorporating such a panel.
However, this is apparently due to the change at CES in early January. According to famous leaker Evan Blass aka @evleaks, Lenovo will launch the latest generation ThinkBook Plus at CES, and it comes with a rollable screen, as you can see in the leaked images below.
You can choose to use it as a ‘normal’ laptop, with what appears to be a 3:2 aspect ratio screen, and no one will be the wiser about the fantastic technology hidden inside.
When you want some extra screen real estate, simply drag the display up and voila, it’s now bigger! It feels like magic when you do it in person for the first time, and that will definitely be a big wow factor for this laptop.
Unfortunately we don’t know any specifications of the display yet, and there’s always the question of durability with first generation products like this, but it’s going to be nice nonetheless. And, we dare guess, incredibly expensive too – that early adopter tax is probably alive and well.
