These are the camera upgrades coming to the next iPhone generations | Infinium-tech
Apple has been rumored to be exploring a 200MP camera for its upcoming iPhones twice so far. At first it was believed that this would be the main camera, and then, a few days ago, we heard about a 200MP telephoto camera that will only arrive in 2028.
Today a new leak from Digital Chat Station on Weibo clears up some of the confusion. According to him, Apple will launch a major camera update every year, starting with the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max this September.

Both of them are getting the much-touted variable aperture. Then, in 2027, the Pro models are reportedly going to come with a 200MP main camera using a 1/1.12″ type sensor, while a 200MP periscope telephoto camera will also be added in 2028. So the 2028 iPhone Pros will have two 200MP cameras.
At some point in 2027 or 2028, Apple will apparently also add gimbal-like OIS to the ultrawide camera. So it’s looking like a few interesting years for the iPhone Pro line, but it’s definitely a shame that Apple is giving us such new features.
