The next iPhone SE will have an OLED screen, another report confirms | Infinium-tech
Apple took a while to switch to OLED display panels for its mainline iPhones, but the iPhone SE stuck with cheaper LCD technology. However, that will change when the next iPhone SE is released, likely next year.
According to a new report from Asia, the next iPhone SE will also have an OLED panel. This confirms several previous rumors. Thus, Apple will no longer make any smartphones using LCD panels, which will hurt Japan Display and Sharp, since they were suppliers and neither of them makes OLED panels for phones (JDI supplies the smaller OLEDs for the Apple Watch).
The LCD screen of the iPhone SE will be the last of its kind
Apple has reportedly begun placing orders for OLED displays for the next iPhone SE from China’s BOE and Korea’s LG. So far, Samsung supplies about half of the OLED panels needed for iPhones, LG’s share is 30%, and BOE produces the remaining 20%.
U.K.-based market researcher Omdia says OLEDs will overtake LCDs in the number of panels shipped for smartphones this year. We’re surprised it took this long.
