The iPhone 17 Slim and Galaxy S25 Slim both run into the same issues | Infinium-tech
Both Apple and Samsung are rumored to be working on slim models next year and both are reportedly running into similar issues. In short, there are two obstacles standing in the way of thinner phones: the motherboard and the battery.
According to Naver poster, Apple has figured out the motherboard problem, now the issue is driving down the cost yeux1122The company tried to incorporate new technology for the battery, but due to large volume production and other issues, it stuck to existing materials.
The end result will be an iPhone 17 Slim that will be around 6mm thick. For comparison, the iPhone 16 Plus (the Plus series is being dropped in favor of a slimmer one) is 7.8mm (the Pros are thicker at 8.3mm). The Slim will reportedly use a new OLED panel measuring 6.6” in size (down from the Plus’s 6.7”). Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo expects the slim to account for 5 to 10% of iPhone shipments next year.
Meanwhile, the Samsung Galaxy S25 Slim will replace the S25 FE and will be a test design that could be adopted for the S26 series (if it proves popular, of course). However, Samsung faced the same problems that Apple faced.
Mass production of the thin motherboard has reportedly been delayed due to supplier issues. However, progress has been made on the use of new materials for batteries. There’s no indication yet how thin the Galaxy S25 Slim will be – the thinnest S24 member is a vanilla phone at 7.6mm.
Both the iPhone 17 Slim and the Samsung Galaxy S25 Slim are expected to arrive in the second half of 2025.
