Tecno Phantom V Flip2 in for review | Infinium-tech
Tecno last week announced the Phantom V Flip2 and V Fold2, two of its most aggressively priced foldable devices to date. The Flip2 costs just $699, but its appeal goes far beyond beating its rivals. There’s a new cover display and a number of new software features, but here’s what caught our attention during our first interaction.
Tecno has moved away from the small circular screen on the first Flip and opted for an (almost) square 3.64″ display that wraps around the cameras and LED flash. The inner panel is the same as the predecessor, but the trimmed bezels have made the phone look a bit narrower and shorter.
The Flip2 has become thicker, but the change is so subtle that you can’t feel it.
The design of the camera island is a big change, but in the coming age of AI, Tecno has introduced a Gemini-powered voice assistant that comes pre-installed on the V Flip2. It’s a chatbot that will bring up search results in real-time, and some features to improve general usability.
The new larger cover screen offers widgets, but it can also run full apps with keyboard support, which could be a game changer in the world of flip foldables. We’ll have to dig deeper into this feature to determine its real-world practicality.
Another big improvement Tecno has made is the battery – its capacity is about 20% higher at 4,720mAh. The charging rate has also been improved to 70W, and the company claims it can charge the full battery in 43 minutes (or 50% charge in 15 minutes).
This capacity is slightly less than the 4,800mAh battery on the Honor Magic V Flip, but the Tecno device is available in different markets, so it would be irrelevant to compare the phones when they are not directly competing.
We should also mention the new dual 50 MP camera setup and a 32 MP selfie shooter with PDAF on the inner screen. This is another big improvement that we will look at during our review process. Stay tuned for it!
