Tecno launches Phantom V Flip2 and Phantom V Fold2 foldables with integrated AI assistant | Infinium-tech
Tecno has today introduced two new foldable phones – the Phantom V Fold2 and the Phantom V Flip2. Both phones come with the manufacturer’s own AI suite, and they are the first devices to have these features straight out of the box.
Tecno Phantom V Flip2 and Phantom V Fold2
Tecno Phantom V Fold2
The Fold2 is an evolution from its predecessor, and retains some key features such as the Dimensity 9000+ chip, 7.85″ inner screen, and 6.42″ cover display.
The biggest change is in the body, which is now thinner at 6.1mm when opened and less than 12mm when folded. It has also lost a lot of weight – it now weighs 249g, down from around 300g, despite the increase in battery size.
The Phantom V Fold2 has Ella AI assistant, which is powered by Google Gemini. The full AI features include smart Q&A (basically a chatbot for real-time answers), AI summary to use in PDFs and webpages, AI translation with live translation during calls and text summarization, AI writing for creative writing, proofreading and rewriting capabilities.
Some other features that will make use of the bigger screen are AI Artboard, which turns scribbles into drawings, and AI Wallpaper, which allows users to create their own wallpaper from a simple text prompt. Tecno also uses AI to promote its Universal Tone technology, which accurately captures different skin tones in photos.
The camera island on the Phantom V Fold2 has been completely redesigned. It is a triple shooter, and all three sensors on the back are 50 MP – a main wide camera, an ultra-wide shooter, and a portrait lens. There are also two 32 MP selfie cameras behind the punch hole – one on the cover screen and the other on the inner screen.
The phone is advertised with 24GB of RAM, but in reality, it has 12GB of RAM physical and 12GB of RAM extended, while the storage is 512GB. The battery inside this phone has a capacity of 5,750mAh and supports 70W wired and 15W wireless charging.
TECNO has priced the Phantom V Fold2 at just $1,099, which is significantly lower than competitors’ prices. It will go on sale in Africa on September 23, followed by Southeast Asia, the Middle East, and Latin America in September and October.
Tecno Phantom V Flip2
The new Tecno flip phone features a larger cover screen with a resolution of 1,056 x 1,056, while the smaller circle was first seen on the Phantom V Flip.
Here, we have a 3.64″ square panel that takes up most of the cover and wraps around the cameras, similar to what Motorola did with the Razr and Xiaomi followed suit on the Mix Flip. The inner panel is a 6.9″ LTPO AMOLED with Full HD+ resolution.
TECNO says the cover screen will support over 2,000 apps, making it “easier for users who often don’t even need to open the main screen.” The cover screen can also be customized with interactive pets that can be petted, and can play games and music.
It doesn’t have card-style functionality, but instead has a so-called desktop application center where users can toggle multiple apps on-the-go without “inefficient sliding.” The display also supports full keyboard display for dialing and typing.
Unlike the Fold, there’s no significant change in the Flip’s weight or size – it’s still a foldable that weighs less than 200 grams, measuring around 7.6mm thin when opened and 16mm thin when folded.
We mentioned the dual cameras on the back, both with 50 MP sensors. The ultra-wide-angle shooter supports 150-degree FoV, which is much wider than the standard UW cameras on smartphones. Tecno has also placed a selfie camera on the inner screen with a 32 MP sensor and autofocus.
The Phantom V Flip2 has all the AI features present in its foldable version – AI Translation, AI Writing, Voice Assistant Ella and more.
The phone packs a 4,720mAh battery, which is one of the largest in a flip foldable. Tecno claims that 70W charging delivers 50% charge in 15 minutes and full charge in 43 minutes.
The Tecno Phantom V Flip2 is priced at $699 and comes with 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage. Like the Fold, it will arrive in Africa on September 23 and then expand to other key regions for Tecno – Southeast Asia, the Middle East, and Latin America.
