Sony will not release any new models in the Xperia 5 series, it was revealed at a recent press conference attended by two Sony general managers. K-Tai WatchInstead, Sony plans to continue selling the Xperia 5v from last year. This decision apparently applies to both domestic and global markets.
What happened? The move is reportedly due to a change in consumer buying habits. Sony has noticed an increase in the number of Xperia 5V users upgrading to the 1 VI, while the previous generation 5-Series had a relatively low number of users switching to the 1 V (shown in red below).
No decision has been made public about Sony’s marketing strategy for 2025. It is likely that the 5-series will return, after making some changes to suit the demands of the new market. But any such plans are only known internally.
