Sony LinkBuds Open in for review | Infinium-tech
Today we have the new Sony LinkBuds Open. These are the second generation version of the LinkBuds that launched almost three years ago.
Like the original model, the LinkBuds Open earbuds are based on the idea of an open-ear design that lets outside sound in naturally. For this, Sony uses a custom ring-shaped driver that sits around the hole in the middle.
At first glance, the earbuds look a bit different with their pod-shaped design and a ring attached to one end. Unlike previous models, the ring is smaller than the pod it is attached to. There’s also a rubber cover around the pod, which adds support to secure the earbuds in your ears.
The design of the case is also unique. The lid and base look like two small pebbles placed on top of each other. The white model also has a marble pattern on the lid.
The LinkBuds Open come in two colors, white and black. The earbuds have 11mm dynamic drivers, although it’s worth noting that there’s a hole in the middle so it’s not really comparable with other drivers of similar size. The earbuds are rated IPX4 for water resistance but the case is not rated. It also does not have wireless charging. Finally, the LinkBuds Open supports SBC, AAC, and LC3 codecs.
The LinkBuds Open are priced at $200. Ultimately it’s quite expensive for a basic pair of earbuds. Due to their size, testing them is also proving to be somewhat difficult. But we’ll discuss this and more in our full review.
