Samsung is apparently working on an additional book-style foldable alongside the Galaxy Z Fold8 | Infinium-tech
Samsung may launch not one but two book-style foldable smartphones next year. Well, this is based on a lot of speculation, but this speculation stems from the simple fact that the Korean company is currently developing a device with the model number SM-F971.
It’s codenamed H8, and it’s definitely not the Fold8, which has model number SM-F976 and codename Q8. It’s definitely part of the Galaxy Z Fold series and not a Flip, as the model numbers for the Flip-style foldables start with the number 7, not 9.

Now, here’s the interesting part. The model number of Galaxy Z Flip FE is SM-F761. If there is a Flip FE 2, it will be the SM-F771, as Samsung increases the midrange figure every year. The first “7” stands for “flip-style” as we’ve already established, thus it makes sense that the SM-F971 will be a Galaxy Z Fold FE. It has the same model number as the Flip FE 2, with only 7 replacing 9, indicating a book-style foldable device.
With all this in mind, note that some other sources (like the one linked below) claim the SM-F971 will be the first device in the new form factor – still a book-style foldable, but with an 18:9 aspect ratio for its cover display and a square internal folding screen.
It is reportedly being developed to compete with the upcoming foldable iPhone, which is also coming next year and is expected to have a wider cover display than Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold7. At this time we can’t tell you which version is correct, we can only ask you to remember that this is all speculation. Hopefully we’ll get more concrete information in the coming weeks and months. Until then, let us know in the comments what you would prefer: the Fold FE or the new Fold with a square internal screen and 18:9 cover display?
