Samsung Galaxy Z Flip8 to be thinner and lighter | Infinium-tech
Samsung is expected to launch the Galaxy Z Flip8 alongside the Galaxy Z Fold8 next summer, and today a report from its home country Korea has some interesting details about the former.
The Flip8 will reportedly be at least 10% thinner and lighter than its predecessor. It will be maximum 6 mm thin when opened, 12 mm thick when closed and will weigh approximately 170 grams. This will prove to be crucial for Samsung in achieving 10% better sales of Flip8 and Fold8 compared to Flip7 and Fold7. The company has apparently set a sales target of 6.7 million units for the upcoming foldable.

The plan to make the Z Flip8 thinner and lighter comes as a result of the fact that sales of the Flip7 have been relatively weak. And it all certainly makes sense, especially considering how Samsung’s Chinese competitors have focused on the thinness and lightness of their foldables in recent times.
Samsung is also reportedly worried about Apple entering the foldable fray in 2026. While this could ‘expand the cake’ of overall foldable device sales, Apple could also lure away some Samsung customers, and one of the ways the Korean company is trying to prevent this is by making the Flip8 more attractive.
And it’s also a matter of timing – this year, the Fold7 became significantly thinner and lighter than its predecessor, while the Flip7 remained similar to the Flip6. So, if this report is accurate, the Flip next year will get basically the same treatment as the Fold in 2025.
