Introduction

A quick survey in our office asking what we’d like to see improved in our smartphones is likely to have ‘battery life’ and ‘cameras’ at the top of the list of answers. Well, Samsung didn’t ask us, but that’s exactly what’s new in the Galaxy Z Flip6.

There are a few changes to the clamshell foldable Galaxy S20 for 2024. A bigger battery is one of them, yet the relatively small increase is most welcome. A new primary camera is also on the menu, with the high-res sensor expected to take the Flip’s zoom game up a notch.

Another new addition is IP-rated protection against solids, alongside the already available water resistance. We’re not sure how significant this development is from a practical standpoint, since it’s not really dust that’s being covered, but we’d take an intermediate evolutionary step, for sure.

Naturally, it also has a new chipset, and if you’re someone who’s passionate about these things, you’ll be happy to know that it’s Snapdragon all the way. A RAM increase to 12GB has also made it to all Flip6s – that’s better than most vanilla S24 versions, which have a mere 8GB.

The cover display still has the same notch design as before, unlike the Moto Razr and their all-screen top panels – maybe next time we’ll see something similar from Samsung. We have little hope of getting really fast charging – should we accept Samsung’s conservative approach in this matter?

Samsung Galaxy Z Flip6 Unboxing

The Galaxy Z Flip6 comes in a minimalist black cardboard box that reduces environmental impact, but it doesn’t include much in terms of accessories.

All you get, in addition to the (mostly useless) documentation, is a USB-C cable and a SIM tool.
