Samsung Galaxy XR teardown reveals a very interesting construction | Infinium-tech
Samsung launched the Galaxy XR headset in October, and today the repairability experts at iFixit have taken one apart, revealing its insides for all of us to see in the video below.
The Galaxy XR is lighter than Apple’s Vision Pro and features a magnetic face cushion and light seal. The entry point of the headset is from the front, so the plastic shell has to be removed first.
Interestingly, the Galaxy XR has a “Void if tampered with” sticker inside, and such messages are illegal in the US. There are lots of screws inside, and a clever design underneath, with every component on a single layer.
Ultimately, the Galaxy XR is a mixed bag. On the one hand, having the battery external makes it incredibly easy to replace, and the use of Phillips screws means you don’t need any special tools to take the headset apart, while the mainboard is very easy to replace.
On the other hand, it’s very hard to get into, and the “Zero if tampered with” sticker screams consumer-friendly design, and Samsung doesn’t even want to publish a repair manual.
