Samsung debuts blazing fast 3 GB DDR7 DRAM for AI & Gaming | Infinium-tech
Samsung today announced that it has developed the industry’s first 24 GB GDDR7 DRAM. It is also intended for end-user use in data centers, AI workstations, as well as graphics cards, gaming consoles, and autonomous driving.
It turns out that the new memory has twice the capacity as last year’s 16GB GDDR7 DRAM. The chip is built on the fifth-generation 10-nm-class process, which improves cell density by 50% while keeping the same size as its predecessor.
Speeds are up to 42.5 Gbps, 25% more than the previous version, thanks to three-level pulse-amplitude modulation (PAM3). As per the company’s claim, power efficiency has improved by more than 30%.
Validation of 24GB GDDR7 DRAM in major AI systems from GPU customers will begin this year. Commercialization of the chip is planned for early 2025.
