Samsung and BOE reach agreement over OLED display patent infringement | Infinium-tech
Samsung Display has been continuing a three-year legal battle against BOE over theft of trade secrets and patent infringement related to OLED technology, and according to a new report yonhap newsBoth the parties have resolved their dispute.
According to the report, the US International Trade Commission (ITC) issued an official statement confirming that the case has been suspended. Although details of the withdrawal were not disclosed, industry sources suggest that BOE has reached an out-of-court settlement with Samsung under which it will be required to pay royalties for using Samsung Display’s intellectual property (IP).

Prior to this turn of events, BOE had faced a nearly 15-year preliminary ban on OLED display imports into the US due to violations of the US Tariff Act. BOE was allegedly misusing Samsung’s trade secrets to sell its OLED panels. BOE is one of the leading display manufacturers and a major supplier to most major smartphone brands including Apple, Huawei, Vivo and Oppo. The new decision will help it restart its OLED display imports into the US.
