Putting a a real camera lens on a cameraphone with 1-inch sensor is a fascinating mod | Infinium-tech
Do you remember that concept camera phone from Xiaomi that had a 1” sensor and a mount for removable lenses? It was based on the Xiaomi 12S Ultra that was modified to accept Leica M mount lenses. It was cool, but it was just a concept and was never made available to general consumers.
If you have DIY skills, you can make your own as in this video from the channel Mod and Shoot It shows. It starts with the Sharp Aquos R6, a 2021 Japan-only Android with a 1” 20MP sensor.
The Sharp Aquos R6 as it comes out of the box
The phone’s 19mm Leica Summicron lens had to be removed, and was replaced with a new lens. C Mount. This mount was originally used on 16mm cameras, nowadays they are more common in security cameras. With the right adapter, this setup can use lenses from many other cameras as you will see in the video. It has one big disadvantage – well, two if you count the extra weight – which is that the autofocus doesn’t work, so you have to focus manually.
The creator of this mod plans to make a similar modification to the 2022 Sharp Aquos R7, adding a higher resolution 47MP 1” sensor (with 11MP binned mode) and new video modes like shooting in 8K.
Mod & Shoot’s Instagram Account I have some videos and photos taken with the modified R6, so go check them out.
