OpenAI’s first hardware product will be AI-powered earbuds | Infinium-tech
According to a Chinese tipster on Weibo, OpenAI is preparing to launch its first hardware product – a pair of earbuds, powered, of course, by the company’s own AI models. According to the report, the company has decided to reduce its hardware efforts for the time being due to rising hardware costs.
First, OpenAI was rumored to be working on a small pendant or pen, which is in line with CEO Sam Altman’s comment about the device being more “peaceful and quiet” than a smartphone. Especially when OpenAI hired Jony Ive, Apple’s ex-chief designer.
Plans have probably changed since the first mention of the device, and the company has decided to go with something simpler – AI-powered earbuds. Sadly, there are no further details available other than that it will probably be called “Dime.” It is expected to be on the market by the end of this year, and once the HBM (high-bandwidth memory) shortage is improved, OpenAI will introduce a more advanced version of the product.
