Today OnePlus has officially announced the next version of its Android skin. OxygenOS 15 is based on Android 15, which Google released for its Pixels just last week. The first open beta version of OxygenOS 15 will arrive for OnePlus 12 on October 30. The stable version may launch in late November.

OxygenOS 15 is billed as a major upgrade by OnePlus, and focuses on speed, design, and AI. It features sophisticated animation interactions made possible by parallel processing. It promises to deliver a smooth experience even during heavy usage.

OxygenOS 15 on the upcoming OnePlus 13 will take up 20% less storage space than OxygenOS 14 on the OnePlus 12 when it launches.

Let’s now come to the elephant in the room – AI. OnePlus is highlighting its AI Detail Boost, which can “transform low-resolution or cropped images into stunning 4K scenes in seconds”. If true, big, as the saying goes. This feature is integrated into the built-in photo album.

AI Unblur does exactly what it says, while AI Reflection Eraser – you guessed it – erases glass reflections from your photos. In the smart sidebar you’ll find your AI toolbox, which includes AI replies. It understands your conversations and generates contextually relevant replies for you.

Intelligent Search improves on-device searching with AI, and OxygenOS 15 also has Circle for Search (and Google’s Gemini will replace Google Assistant on the OnePlus 13). Pass Scan instantly scans paper or digital boarding passes. AI Notes can do things like format, expand or reduce content, adjust formality, and ensure notes are well-structured and well-polished, and AI Notes is also voice-driven.

The new software comes with new boot animations, new icons, more shelf card options and more fingerprint unlocking style options. OnePlus has also added “extensive shimmering effects” and “Gaussian blur” throughout the system, which “creates a natural and harmonious visual experience”, whatever that means. The Settings menu, notification bar, and Control Center have all been streamlined.

You can also easily share files across iPhones with the Share with iPhone feature. OxygenOS 15 also gets piracy protection features announced by Google some time ago.
