Netflix officially removes Basic – the cheapest ad-free tier | Infinium-tech
Netflix will discontinue the Basic plan in the United States and France. The cheapest ad-free plan will be eliminated and users will be pushed to the more expensive Standard or cheaper ad-supported tier.
The announcement was made through the Q2 financial report, where the company revealed that the change was first tested in the United Kingdom and Canada. Users in several countries have already reported the change, which has now become official.
The Basic plan, which cost $11.99 in the United States, was removed for new users, but Netflix allowed paying subscribers to keep it. Now, they are also being pushed towards a new plan, and the cheaper option is ad-enabled at $6.99.
The cheapest, ad-free version is $15.49 (Standard) or $22.99 (Premium, which allows viewing and downloading on more supported devices and streaming in 4K where available).
Netflix has revealed two more changes in its quarterly report. It is currently testing ads that appear in the pause screen (for ad-supported tiers only), and now its success will be measured not in new subscribers but in growth in regional revenue.
