MediaTek’s Dimensity 8600 to bring big upgrades | Infinium-tech
MediaTek is expected to unveil the Dimensity 9600 SoC as its next flagship chip later this year, but the company is also working on the Dimensity 8600 upper-midrange SoC. This is important because in recent times, MediaTek’s Dimensity 8 series chips have dominated the AnTuTu benchmark ratings for upper-midrange phones – it seems as if Qualcomm has decided to cede this market to MediaTek.
And so, it will be interesting to see where MediaTek takes the 8 series with the next member, the Dimensity 8600. According to a new rumor out of China today, this chip will use a 3nm process, which would be a notable improvement since the 8500 is built on a 4nm process.

Additionally, the 8600 will come with a “completely advanced architecture,” the source of this rumor unfortunately claims without going into more details. The Dimensity 8-series was always notable for using a “big”-core design, so we’re probably getting upgraded cores. Although we are wondering if it would be too much to expect a Prime Core given the cost effectiveness of this platform. Only time will tell.
Either way, devices from Oppo, Vivo and their sub-brands are currently being tested with the upcoming Dimensity 8600 chipset, and are expected to launch by the end of the year – some of them even with 10,000 mAh batteries.
