MediaTek Dimensity 9400’s NPU obliterates the competition in AI Benchmark | Infinium-tech
After months of rumors, leaks, and speculation, today MediaTek made the Dimensity 9400 official. The company’s new top chipset promises to be a powerful competitor to the upcoming Snapdragon 8 Gen 4, and that’s already been proven by its results in AI benchmarks.
The Dimensity 9400’s NPU 890 is comfortably ahead in that benchmark with 6,773 points. This is up from the NPU 790 in its predecessor, the Dimensity 9300, which got only 4,911 points, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 which got only 3,633 points, and the Neural Engine of the Apple A17 Pro which got 3,428 points.
Of course, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 hasn’t been tested by this benchmark, so it remains to be seen how much it can improve on its predecessor’s scores. The results for the Apple A18 Pro are not in yet, and of course the usual caveats apply for such a case – benchmarks in general don’t necessarily translate to real-life performance, and this is just a benchmark. This is a very specific benchmark testing only on-device AI processing skills.
The NPU of the Dimensity 9400 is said to consume 35% less power than its predecessor, which is impressive considering how it does so while also being significantly better at its job.
