Mediatek details Helio G100 – it’s as big of an update as the name suggests | Infinium-tech
MediaTek has officially announced its Helio G100 chipset eight days after the launch of the first phone on the platform, the Tecno Camon 30S Pro.
The detailed specs shared by MediaTek show that the Helio G100 is almost identical to the Helio G99 when it comes to the CPU and GPU. The most notable change is the added support for 200MP main cameras.
The MediaTek G100 has an octa-core CPU with two 2.2 GHz Cortex-A76 cores and six 2.0 GHz Cortex-A55 units. It uses LPDDR4X RAM and UFS 2.2 storage, while the maximum display resolution is 2,520 x 1,080 pixels.
The Helio G99 is a popular choice for mid-rangers in the LTE market as it comes at a lower price than the comparably performing Dimensity chipset. Obviously, cameras have changed a lot since 2022 and that is why the Helio G100 now supports 200 MP single cameras. It also does 16 + 16 MP dual shooting and 32 MP video capture @ 30 fps, but these were already present on the G99.
The new chip also brings the so-called “elevator mode”, which promises to restore cellular connection faster when exiting coverage-less locations such as tunnels or elevators. It supports dual 4G SIM with VoLTE and ViLTE.
MediaTek is apparently already supplying the Helio G100 to customers, so we can expect to see more phones with it in the coming weeks and months.
