MediaTek announces the Dimensity 8450 with minor improvements | Infinium-tech
MediaTek announced a direct heir, a direct successor for the distance 8400, released in December 2024, 8450. As the name means, the upgrade is minimal, and the company started mostly under-hood changes. Interestingly, Silicon – Oppo Reno 14 Pro is already running.
Demistance 8450 is still based on the second generation 4Nm node of TSMC, with the 1x Cortex-X4 core ticking with Octa-Core CPU on 3.25 ghz, 3x Cortex-A720 core 3.0 GHz and 4x Cortex-A520 core. The Mali-G720 is with the GPU 7 core and it has been seen at 1300 MHz. If it seems familiar, it is because the dimension 8400 runs on the same precise hardware.
However, the new chipset claims gaming and ISP optimization. For example, the GPU, now uses StarSide Engine, improves real-world gaming, while better ISP has live-stream optimization. The ISP is capable of handling 320MP sensors with zero-class HDR imaging. NPU 880 also receives some love with agent AI engine that allows support for on-device geni and LLM workload.
Finally, the 5G modem of 8450 gets a new power-sewing feature, Ultrasav 3.0+ to reduce energy consumption.
We should begin to see the chip in the upper mid-range phone in the next weeks and months.
