Leak shows that HMD might be working on a camera-focused Lumia 1020 revival | Infinium-tech
There’s a reason the classics still play on the radio – and that’s why HMD has adopted the Lumia design language for its recent batch of phones, starting with the Skyline. Arguably, the best Lumia of them all was the Lumia 1020, thanks to an impressive 41MP sensor housed on a circular camera island on its back.
It looks like HMD is using this same design for an unnamed upcoming model. The circular island in the center houses four lenses (and the LED flash), as can be seen in the leaked silhouette below:
This is not the HMD Hyper, which has a rectangular island in the upper left corner like the Skyline. And it is not another similar-looking phone from HMD, which has also been leaked recently. The Hyper appears to be a lower mid-range device anyway, while this will probably be in the upper range.
Not that we have any specs to work with, except for the camera count – the Skyline was HMD’s most ambitious phone to date in terms of camera and the first phone with a triple camera (excluding phones with macro modules). It looks like the 1020 should be HMD’s first phone with a quad camera.
The Skyline’s 108+50+13MP setup is certainly solid hardware, but the overall package lacks in some aspects. However, even this camera isn’t up to the level of the flagship Lumia. Although the Lumia lost the resolution crown years ago, the high quality image processing that defined the Lumia (and PureView before them) was learned over years of effort, so HMD has a long road ahead of it if it wants to challenge the current camera king.
