Jolla announces the new Jolla Phone with Sailfish OS 5 and a physical privacy switch | Infinium-tech
Finnish company Jolla has announced a new smartphone after a long gap of launching new models. It is called the Jolla Phone and is advertised by Jolla as an “independent European do-it-together (DIT) Linux phone”.
Jolla says the Jolla Phone is a “real Linux phone” because it runs “real Linux” inside, not “pseudo Linux.” But this is the basic thing. From a user perspective, you get version 5 of the privacy-focused Sailfish OS, which is advertised as “the only European mobile operating system.”

Jolla also claims that with Sailfish OS, “No tracking, no calling home, no hidden analytics.” And although it supports Android apps, you can completely de-Google your phone whenever you want.
Talking about specs and features, the Jolla phone is powered by a “high performant” MediaTek SoC and packs 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage, which can be expanded via a microSD card.

The Jolla phone features a 6.36″ FullHD AMOLED display with 390 ppi pixel density and is protected by Gorilla Glass. The smartphone sports a 50MP primary camera on the back, which is joined by a 13MP ultrawide camera. The resolution of the selfie camera on the front is unknown.
The Jolla phone has a 5,500 mAh user-replaceable battery. Its back cover is also interchangeable, and Jolla will offer them in three colors – Snow White, Camos Black, and The Orange.
Other highlights of the Jolla phone include a side-mounted fingerprint scanner, NFC, 5G connectivity, dual-SIM support, and a physical privacy switch to turn off the phone’s microphone, camera, Bluetooth, etc. Additionally, the smartphone is “guaranteed with OS support for at least 5 years.”

Jolla says technical specifications of Jolla phones are subject to final confirmation upon final payment and manufacturing, and minor changes may apply. Why so? Well, that’s because the Jolla phone will only be produced if at least 2,000 units are pre-ordered by January 4, 2026. However, at the time of writing, Jolla has already received over 1,200 pre-orders.
If you are interested, you can pre-order the Jolla phone with a down payment of €99 through the source given at the end of this article. The smartphone is listed with a full price of €499, while the normal price will be between €599 and €699. Those who pre-order the Jolla phone will receive a special edition back cover as a token of appreciation for their support.
The Finnish company has promised to refund the pre-order amount to backers if it does not reach 2,000 pre-orders before January 4, 2026. But since it has already crossed the Rs 1,000 mark, it is likely that we will see the Jolla phone enter production.

Deliveries of the Jolla phone are estimated to begin by the end of H1 2026, and will be available in the UK, Norway, Switzerland, and the EU. The smartphone will work outside of Europe, and its availability will expand to more markets depending on interest.
