iPhone 16 display mass production has already started | Infinium-tech
Apple’s iPhone 16 line is already rumored to arrive on time in September, despite the fact that the Apple Intelligence Suite has reportedly been delayed until October.
Ahead of the release of the handsets, Samsung and LG have started mass producing display panels for the upcoming iPhone 16 models.
According to sources in Korea, Apple has ordered 80 million panels from Samsung and 43 million panels from LG. Apple’s iPhone 16 shipments this year are estimated at around 90 million, so it seems the company has ordered about 30% more panels than that.
The supply chain in Korea has “confirmed” that both Samsung and LG are currently producing panels normally in line with this order volume. Both companies will benefit from Apple’s order, with better performance in the second half of this year.
The Korean supply chain reportedly believes that the iPhone 16 series, the first to be shipping with Apple Intelligence, will persuade a lot of people to upgrade to these models, creating “huge demand” for them.
LG will benefit the most as its supply of display panels has increased by around 10 million compared to last year, and its share has grown to over 30% with Samsung. It is also being said that this year for the first time LG is meeting its production schedule without any delays, which will also help in improving performance.
In 2022 and 2023, LG’s delay in beginning mass production for iPhone OLED panels led to Samsung becoming the sole supplier of initial quantities at launch.
On the other hand, Samsung’s figures have not grown significantly compared to previous years (when it comes to Apple’s orders for iPhones), but the share of panels for the Pro and Pro Max, which are more expensive, is higher, so its revenue is expected to increase. Of all the panels supplied by Samsung, panels for the iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max represent almost 60%.
As for China’s BOE, it is apparently having issues getting approval to supply the iPhone 16 family, so it may not supply this generation.
