Google Pixels got 80% battery charge limit and battery bypass with the latest update | Infinium-tech
A few days ago Google launched the December Pixel drop with a long post about new Gemini features and more. Not to mention that the Pixel now has the option to limit the battery charge to 80% to extend its life. And there is also an additional feature.
The Google Pixel 8 series and Pixel 9 series now support bypass “charging” – this powers the phone from an external source (usually a wall adapter, but a good enough power bank should also work) instead of the internal battery. To enable this, you need to toggle the 80% charge limit – then the battery will neither charge nor discharge when it reaches 80%.
If you’ve installed the latest Pixel software, you’ll find the option in Settings > Battery. Toggle “Use charging optimization” and select “Limit to 80%” (the other option is the familiar “Adaptive Charging”). This will enable both charge limit and bypass.
Enabling battery charge limit and bypass
To verify that this is working, you can use an app to view the battery status – it should show the battery as “Not Charging” and the power source as “AC” ( into wall power instead of battery).
Note that the phone will sometimes charge its battery to 100% and then let it get down to 80%. All bypass features do this, this is so the circuitry can calibrate itself and give accurate battery charge level readings.
Now, since Google has included this feature, there is no official statement on the charger requirements for the bypass to work. support page It is quite brief and does not mention any requirements.
Other brands have also implemented a similar feature. For example, Samsung calls it “Pause USB Power” and it is also requirements:PS and a USB Power Delivery charger with at least a 25W rating.
