It’s Google Pixel 9 Pro Fold time, folks! Google’s first foldable, aptly named Pixel Fold, was interesting for being the first, but ultimately proved too rare and a bit awkward. Google’s second attempt – the Pixel 9 Pro Fold – could easily be your best option of a book-style foldable at the time of this writing.

Despite the exorbitant price of €1,899, the Pixel 9 Pro Fold has a starting price of 256GB and only comes with a USB cable. But that’s the case with accessories with the Galaxy Z Fold6 too.

You can buy this first-party case from Google for an additional €60.

So what’s so special about the Pixel 9 Pro Fold? It’s very sturdy when held in the hand and gives you a feeling of robustness and excellent craftsmanship. It’s also well touted and flat – closing tightly and without any gaps.

Inside, the folding screen has hardly any noticeable creases. One thing that makes the Pixel 9 Pro Fold great for this category is its aspect ratio. The cover display is a 6.3-inch panel with a regular 20:9 aspect ratio. Inside is a larger 8.0-inch unit with a 1:1 ratio that’s perfect for reading or viewing two apps simultaneously.

Google clearly looked at Oppo’s Find N3 (known globally as the OnePlus Open) as a good blueprint for this type of device. Placed side by side, the Pixel 9 Pro Fold is slightly taller and wider, and it’s heavier in the hand, too.

Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold6 is a bit infamous these days for its thin cover screen aspect ratio. It’s not as comfortable to use as the Pixel 9 Pro Fold, but it does allow for a much smaller and lighter device – the Galaxy Z Fold6 is 18 grams lighter.

Here’s a look at Google’s entire Pixel 9 lineup. Interestingly, except for the 6.8-inch Pixel 9 Pro XL, the rest of the series measures 6.3-inches. From left to right we have the Pixel 9, Pixel 9 Pro, Pixel 9 Pro XL, and Pixel 9 Pro Fold.

We’ll take our time with this review as there’s a lot to cover, but expect a detailed comparison with the Galaxy Z Fold6 at some point too!
