Google Pixel 11 to borrow a forgotten feature from the Pixel 4 | Infinium-tech
Google’s Pixel 11, coming in 2026, is now rumored to resurrect the feature last seen in the Pixel 4 in 2019. Google is apparently considering adding an under-display infrared camera to the Pixel 11 generation, enabling secure face unlocking.
The last time something like this happened in Pixel was with Pixel 4 in 2019. Google then abandoned the feature, only now thinking about reintroducing it in a new form (this is something the company does a lot). While the Pixel 4 was supposed to have a huge top bezel for the screen to accommodate the technology, the Pixel 11 will have the IR camera below the display, so it won’t take up any visible space.

Coincidentally, 2026 is when Apple is rumored to start using under-display IR cameras for its Face ID technology. Google’s Tensor G6 chipset, which will power the Pixel 11 family, will have support for infrared face unlock via the under-display infrared camera.
Of course, the fact that the chip will support this feature does not mean that the feature will see the light of day. On the other hand, the Tensor G6 is a chip that Google is custom-designing for its own smartphones and nothing else, so there would be no point baking in such support if nothing comes of it.
