Google Maps is getting a weird power saving mode | Infinium-tech
Google Maps for Android will soon be getting a strange new power saving mode. This will work independently of your phone’s power saving options. It was discovered through diving into the code of the latest beta release of Google Maps for Android.
It looks like you would activate power saving mode by pressing the power button of your phone. This seems strange at first, but perhaps the idea here is that it will give you space to turn off the screen completely to save power?

Anyway, once it’s on, the interface becomes monochrome and extremely minimalistic, as you can see in the screenshot below. You don’t even know the name of the street or the next street you’re on. Just arrows, ETA, how much time you have to go, and how much distance is left.

Upcoming Google Maps Power Saving Mode
Of course, it hasn’t launched yet, which means it’s probably still in development, which means things could change before its official debut.
The power saving mode will support walking, driving and two-wheeler directions, but it is unclear whether it will also support public transport. If it remained in the same state of minimalism it probably wouldn’t, because it wouldn’t even display your bus or train number, making it completely useless.
However, it should still feature audio output, so maybe the point is to keep it on when you’re driving at night so the UI is less distracting? Be sure to let us know in the comments what you think – what would you use it for?
