Fairbuds XL Gen 2 bring improved drivers, ANC and battery while retaining modular design | Infinium-tech
More than two years after launching its first over-ear headphones, Fairphone has a new version of its Fairbuds XL. The second generation Fairbuds XL bring an updated design and new drivers, although the modular aspect remains.
The new 40mm dynamic drivers are backward compatible with the original Fairbuds XL, meaning users with older models can also enjoy the updated drivers and sound tuning. Fairphone will sell the left driver assembly for €61.95 and the right one for €39.95. But it’s not just about drivers, it’s about everyone main componentsThe new Fairbuds XL are user replaceable, so if anything breaks, you’ll be able to order the exact part and replace it yourself.

The user-replaceable approach extends to the battery, which can be easily accessed by opening the left side cover. From there, you can easily take it out, as it is not bound by any adhesive. The battery life of the new model is rated at 30 hours with ANC off and 20 hours with ANC on. This is an improvement of 5 hours compared to the first generation version.
Fairbuds XL Gen 2 Battery Replacement
The Fairbuds XL Gen 2 are paired with dual device connectivity over Bluetooth 5.3 and feature updated noise cancellation, now rated at up to 35dB noise reduction. Fairphone is also advertising improved wind noise reduction for clearer sounding calls. The headphones support AAC, SBC and aptX HD audio codecs and feature IP54 ingress protection.
The Fairbuds XL Gen 2 come in Forest Green and Horizon Black colors and are priced at €249/£219 in Europe. They are also expected to be launched in the US later this month for $229.
