Another Google Pixel 9 Pro XL video teardown confirms battery replacement woes | Infinium-tech
A few hours ago iFixit published its teardown video of the Google Pixel 9 Pro XL, and now the same phone has been subjected to similar treatment by Zack of JerryRigEverything.
The device is opened from the back using heat and isopropyl alcohol. From the start the repair seems a bit hampered by the use of less common screws in some parts. And there are also many sizes of screws, which can make the reassembly process even more complicated.
The battery removal process is pretty messy, as seen in another video. The pull tab basically breaks off without doing its job, so you have to use alcohol to dissolve the very strong adhesive. According to Jack, the Google Pixel 9 Pro XL has the most difficult battery replacement of any mainstream phone, including iPhones.
The microphone hole is designed in a way that it doesn’t get punctured if you accidentally stick the SIM removal tool in it. The cameras are actually quite large, which somewhat justifies the size of that camera island.
Both Samsung and Apple have recently made massive improvements to the repairability of their smartphones, but unfortunately Google hasn’t. Maybe next year.
