Amazon’s Alexa+ AI chatbot is now available to everyone in the US, with a catch | Infinium-tech
Amazon’s Alexa+ AI chatbot was until now only available to those enrolled in Early Access, but that changed today. Now, everyone in the US can use Alexa+.
The problem is that people who subscribe to Amazon Prime get free and unlimited access. If you’re not a Prime member, you can either pay $19.99 per month for it, or use Alexa+ Chat, which is “a text-based chat interface for getting quick answers, planning, researching, and exploring new topics.” It’s free, but Amazon says it will be “limited based on usage,” without giving further details.
Alexa+ is powered by the big language models of both Amazon Nova and Anthropic. It’s available on Alexa-enabled devices, Alexa.com, and the Alexa app. To get started with Alexa+, simply say “Alexa, upgrade to Alexa+,” or log in to your Amazon account at Alexa.com.
According to Amazon, during the Early Access phase, people have used Alexa+ in “completely new and different ways” compared to the old Alexa, with “more complex interactions” and “deeper conversations” that explore complex topics as well as the news of the day. Alexa+ can talk to you about the same topic(s) for days because it remembers the context.
