A quarter of all new iPhones are now made in India | Infinium-tech
According to a new report from Bloomberg News25% of all new iPhones are now made in India. It is estimated that 55 million iPhones were manufactured in India last year, up from 36 million in 2024. India’s rise as a top iPhone manufacturing hub began in 2017 with the iPhone SE, followed by the iPhone 6s a year later.
At the time, Apple’s primary goal was to avoid India’s high import duties on goods manufactured in China, but Cupertino soon found itself in the middle of the emerging US-China trade war, which forced it to expand its iPhone manufacturing to more areas outside China.
Since then, iPhone manufacturing in India has expanded steadily as Foxconn, Tata Electronics and Pegatron began assembling all major iPhone models in the months following their announcements. The iPhone 15 signaled a change, becoming the first iPhone to be assembled in India and available locally from day one.
India is boosting local manufacturing incentives and is shaping up to become Apple’s major production hub for iPhones, with all the new iPhone 17 series devices sold in the US market reportedly being assembled in India. According to a rumor from late 2025, Apple is also planning to assemble iPhone chips in India.
